Acne is like a nightmare for many, especially teenagers. Apart from causing unsightly bumps, acne may also leave scars. Those with this skin condition may try a whole lot of commercial products and home remedies to get rid of these unpleasant bumps.
While, some of these products or remedies may work for some, others may not find them useful in controlling and curing this skin condition. Yogurt is said to be one of the effective home remedies for acne.

Yogurt for Acne

Acne can be of different types like whiteheads, blackheads, papules and pustules. This condition is caused by overactive sebaceous glands of the skin that produce too much oil. In normal skin, this oil is drained out through the pores. In those with acne, the oil gets blocked inside, as it mixes up with dirt and dead skin cells.
This causes whiteheads and blackheads. Sometimes the pores break open, causing red bumps. If the blockage is deep inside, it will result in firm and enlarged bumps called pimples. In some cases, bacteria may gain access to the inner blockage, causing inflammation.
There are various factors that are linked to the occurrence of acne and this include heredity, diet, hormones, stress and cosmetics. In most cases, acne is found to subside with age.
Even though, there are various over-the-counter products and medicinal preparations for treating acne, home remedies are preferred for controlling acne. Yogurt is one of the widely used acne home remedies. Both oral intake and topical application of yogurt are said to be beneficial for acne.
Consumption of yogurt is useful for those with acne, as this dairy product has various nutrients that are good for skin. Yogurt being acidic, is considered beneficial in drawing out excess oil, along with dirt and toxins. It is said to be an effective cleanser with antibiotic properties. This inhibits the action of bacteria, causing inflammation.
