Another option is to cut a lemon in half and directly apply it over the affected area, leave it on for a while and then wash it off. Lemon is also known to get rid of freckles and acne marks.

Apply Toothpaste

We are basically trying all things which helps us lighten the skin. This option is effective for smaller uneven patches like between our fingers and toes. Take a little (pea-sized) toothpaste and scrub it on the desired patch of skin for a while and assess the results. Repeat if necessary, but be gentle, and have patience―that is the key to get rid of a tan.

Rubbing Alcohol or Acetone

Dip a soft or wash cloth in rubbing alcohol and apply it on the affected area; however, use this sparingly, because this stuff can be quite harsh on the skin. Remember to moisturize your skin after applying the rubbing alcohol since it dehydrates your skin. Too much of acetone, also known as nail polish remover, can damage your skin and can make it dry.

Apply Denture Cleaner

This stuff works best for areas like fingernails and toenails where, generally, the self tanner buildup is high. And, no matter how much you try to remove it with acetone, there is still some leftover near the cuticle area or under the nails, which can easily be cleaned if you soak your nails in denture cleaner. This stuff won't damage or dehydrate your skin dry.

Dab Hydrogen Peroxide

Ankles, knees, elbows, and, wrists are dry areas of our body and they don't absorb self tanner like the rest of the skin. This means uneven patches and streaks, you can soak a cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and gently dab it on the affected area until the tan disappears.

Scrub With Baking Soda

Baking soda does not contain any harmful chemicals and is safer than hydrogen peroxide. Take half a teaspoon of baking soda on a washcloth, gently rub on the area, and try not to be too harsh. Rinse off and wait for a couple of hours before trying again.

Take a Hot Soapy Bath

You can finally have your ME time by using this method, set aside some time from your busy schedule, and take a nice long warm bath. You can get into a tub or whatever suits you, use a scrub, a sugar scrub, much better than salt scrub, gently exfoliate your skin using this scrub and wash off and stay in the bath and enjoy.

Massage With Baby Oil

Well if you have the time and patience for this, massage yourself with baby oil all over your body, leave it on for 10 minutes, or 30 minutes if you have time. Baby oil is very soft on skin, and it can reduce the discoloration to a great extent.

Apply Toner

Apply a strong toner to your face and neck, as these will be your priority areas, since you can't cover them up with clothes. Toners with AHAs and BHAs are good to go, and will bring out your natural skin tone.

Use OTC Products

You can always try out various products over the counter, just ensure that you check their ingredients for harmful chemicals, and follow the applying instructions carefully.
