Everyone dreams of an enviable mane. In the quest for this crowning glory, we tend to easily fall for all the hair care product advertisements where a svelte model is shown caressing her long and lustrous locks. But, when you actually use that product, you don't quite end up with a long and shiny mane, do you? Well then, the answer to all your hair problems is lying in a cupboard in your kitchen. Given below are the various benefits of vinegar for hair.

How Does Vinegar Help?

The reason it is said that vinegar is beneficial for hair is that our hair is slightly acidic in nature. The ideal pH of our tresses is somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5. However, many of the shampoos and conditioners that we use tend to be alkaline, which disturbs the natural pH of our hair. Thus, rinsing them with vinegar or apple cider vinegar helps to restore the pH balance.
This also helps to remove any of the build-up of chemicals or remnants that can occur due to chemical products. By rinsing with vinegar, we also manage to close the cuticle scales that cover and protect the shaft of hair, which in turn makes the hair smoother, shinier, and healthier. Given below are the details regarding how vinegar helps to treat different hair problems.

Vinegar for Shiny Hair

Vinegar helps to restore the shine as it helps to restore the pH of hair, making it stronger. It also helps to remove tangles in the tresses. For people who have a very dry mane, vinegar may lead to slight added dryness, so it is best to shampoo and condition your hair before using it.
You need to take vinegar and water in the ratio of 1:2 and rinse your locks with this solution. The amount of solution needed will depend on the length of your mane. You may also add a drop of essential oil to the solution.

Vinegar for Scalp

Vinegar can help to clean the scalp and improve its health, especially if you have been experiencing a lot of irritation and itching. To help bring back the health of the scalp, you can rinse your scalp with half a cup of vinegar that is mixed with two cups of lukewarm water. You need to use this solution only after you are done shampooing.
Also, you must not apply any shampoo or artificial product after using this solution. You can leave the rinse for half an hour. This remedy needs to be done at least once a week to be effective.
If your scalp happens to have any chemicals remaining from the hair care products, then the acetic acid in vinegar acts as a chelating agent and removes them. Acetic acid also helps to remove any accumulated sebum or wax build-up. This will also help to prevent hair loss, and is more effective than drinking apple cider vinegar.

Vinegar for Dandruff

Vinegar also helps to remove dandruff in the same way that it removes any soap or shampoo scum that may be present on your scalp. The acetic acid helps to wash away the dandruff. It has been seen that where many well-known and reputed hair care products have failed, vinegar has been highly effective.
To get rid of dandruff from your hair, make a solution of warm water and vinegar and rub it well into your scalp. You need to leave this solution on your scalp and then wash it off after a while with only water.
Thus, vinegar is a great age-old remedy for hair-related problems. Whether it is that lustrous shine you're after or if you want a full and final remedy for your dandruff problem, the answer is hidden in a bottle of vinegar!
