Tweezing Hair

Aakash Singh
Tweezing, or plucking, is the process of removing hair with the help of tweezers. The following section gives more information on the same.
Hair removal is a vital part of any beauty regime. There are various methods of hair removal. The technique varies depending upon the body part from which hair is to be removed. One such technique is hair tweezing, which is quite commonly used.

What it Means

Tweezing is done for facial hair removal. It is mostly associated with the removal of the facial or eyebrow hair. It means plucking hair with the help of tweezers. Tweezers are forceps with which the hair can be extracted. They come in various shapes and sizes like pointed, slanted, and square variants; their shapes mostly determine their use.
They are further divided into regular grip and wide grip. If you are not sure about how much to tweeze, keep looking into the mirror to check how much you have already done. It is always recommended to pluck one brow first and then move to another to maintain the symmetry. After the process, regrowth can take 3 to 8 weeks.
Care must be taken while plucking hair. Removal of unwanted hair using this method can be relatively painful and, if not done properly, may damage the skin as well, especially the hair follicles under the skin. It is always better to remove a little hair rather than too much.

How it is Done

  • For a smooth, less painful experience, tweeze hair after a hot bath or a shower.
  • Disinfect the tweezers before and after every use. Also clean them after each use.
  • Purchase a good pair of tweezers for the process to be smooth and easy.
  • To avoid pain, stretch the part of skin from where you want to remove the hair and grip the bottom of the hair towards the root. Pull in the direction of the hair growth.
  • You can apply ice to the tweezed area to minimize the pain.
  • Always tweeze hair in the direction of its growth. Do one hair at a time if you cannot bear the pain.
  • Pull the hair in a smooth and slow fashion, as hurrying through it will only increase the pain.
  • Removal of nose hair with tweezers may lead to infection. Use trimmers instead. Plucking hair from curved areas, like the underarms, should be avoided
  • Take good care of your tweezers. Avoid dropping them as it could damage the tip, and also lead to improper alignment. It is always good to protect the tip with a cap.
Electrical epilators are also available in the market. However, these are only to be used on flat areas like the legs or hands. These devices can cost you up to 300$ depending upon the make and model. Generic tweezers cost up to 50$, and are easily available at drug stores.
Tweezing can be painful at times, as there is a possibility of hair being removed from moles. It is a temporary solution to unwanted hair. However, if you are looking for a permanent solution, then a visit to a beauty clinic is recommended.
