Eyeliner is an ageless essential of eye makeup that has always been in vogue, though its application techniques have varied according to personal preference.
However, if you are someone who loves to keep up with trends, and play up your style, then applying thick eyeliners will really help you make a statement. This style is now doing its rounds as the trendiest form of eye makeup. What's more, by applying it, you will not have to worry about the rest of your makeup.
All you have to do is keep it subtle, so that your eyes are highlighted. You also don't have to bother about the eyeshadow, especially if you are using a colored eyeliner. Presented here is a step-by-step guide to make yourself a diva of the night.

Methods

The secret to applying thick eyeliner, and pulling it off, is to understand whether it suits your personality. You don't want it to make you look harsh, but you still have to look sophisticated. For a mild look use it in combination with a neutral shade of eyeshadow.
This will make the eyeliner appear vibrant, and also tone down the harshness that you may believe appears with this look. On the other hand, if you want to look dark and create a mysterious effect, you can make a thicker line, and a darker shade of eyeliner like gray, black, or blue. To sport this look, follow these steps.
➢ Firstly, cleanse your eyes before you start with the eye makeup. Then apply a primer on your eyelids, from your upper lash line to the brow, so as to allow the liner to spread smoothly. After the primer has set, put some translucent powder on the eyes to hold the primer in place.
➢ Choose your eyeliner, depending on the type you are comfortable with. While the liquid variant helps in creating a smooth and clean effect, some of you may find it easier to use a pencil. Moreover, for a smoky effect it is better to use a pencil or a creamy eyeliner. Ensure that you use waterproof products so that you may prevent smudging.
➢ Start by applying a thin line immediately above your upper lash line. Further, draw a thin line on your lower lash line as well, slightly away from the inner corner of the eye. Allow the upper and lower lines to meet at the corner of the eye. This step will help you to define the shape of your eyes.
➢ Use a neutral shade of eyeshadow on the eyeliner, to set it in place.
➢ For a thick line, keep a creamy eyeliner. It should be the same color as the liquid liner. Draw a thick line on the upper lash line, using the previous lash line. The line can be as thick as you want it to be. Create a tapering effect, at the inner corner of the eye being thinner and becoming thicker as it heads towards the outer corner.
➢ Take a pencil, and apply a line (not as thick as the upper eyeliner), on the lower lash line. Liquid eyeliner on the lower lash line is prone to heavy smudging.
Use very light makeup to the rest of your face, and use a nude lip gloss or lip balm to highlight your lips. Your look is now complete.
This suits those who have larger eyes. Trying to sport this look with smaller eyes will only make them look smaller. Identifying the right shade to suit your skin tone and your eye color is the best way to be able to carry off this look. It is trendy, chic, and definitely attracts attention towards your ability to carry off this mysterious look with panache.
