Sunflower oil is used extensively for culinary purposes. It is also an important ingredient in numerous products that are meant for skin and hair care. In fact, sunflower oil is a commonly used base oil in various brands of hair oils. You may also find it in different types of hot oil treatments.

How to Use Sunflower Oil for Hair

Sunflower oil can be included in your diet, either as a cooking oil or as a salad dressing. You may also go for hair care products that contain this oil. Some people apply sunflower oil on the scalp. As mentioned above, there are different types of hot oil hair treatments that include sunflower oil as an ingredient. If you plan to do a hot oil hair treatment at home, gather the following materials.
  • Sunflower oil - 2/3 cup
  • Sandalwood essential oil - 8 to 10 drops
  • Lavender oil - 8 to 10 drops
  • Geranium essential oil - 8 to 10 drops
  • Vitamin E oil - 2 tsp.
  • Honey - 1 tbsp.
  • Hot water - 1 bowl
  • Plastic bag (resealable) - 1

How to Use
Take a resealable plastic bag and pour the sunflower oil, the essential oils, honey, and vitamin E oil into it. Seal the bag and shake well, so that the ingredients mix thoroughly. Take hot water in a bowl and place the plastic bag in the water, so that the oil-honey mixture inside the bag gets warm.
Once it is warm, take out the bag and apply the oil on the scalp as well as the hair. Cover the hair with a shower cap, and wrap it with a warm towel. Wait for around 20 to 30 minutes before washing the hair using a mild shampoo. After washing, condition the hair. This hot oil treatment is said to be very effective for dry and damaged hair.
