Uses for Skin Care

Most skin blemishes and scars occur because of pimples and other infections. Pimples are small skin inflammations filled with pus, that occur mostly on the face, neck and back.
Scars and blemishes develop after the blackheads or whiteheads become clogged and infected. As long as they don't burst, they don't scar. Once they burst, they leave behind acne scars. Sandalwood in powder form can be used to soothe eczema, psoriasis, etc., which helps by soothing the itching and burning sensation. Try any of the following remedies.

» Black Gram Paste

Mix ½ teaspoon of sandalwood powder with some distilled water and one teaspoon of powdered black gram. Apply it to the infected area, keep it overnight and wash it with cold water the next day.

» Rose Water Paste

Mix 1 teaspoon of sandalwood powder with 2-3 teaspoons of pure rose water. The consistency should not be runny but it shouldn't be too thick either. Apply the paste on the pimples, leave it for about half an hour and wash with cold water. To wash off the paste, dab a little water on it first and clear it off with the tip of your finger in a circular motion.

» Coconut Milk

Applying sandalwood and coconut milk paste, is like giving your skin a double boost of germicide qualities. In a small bowl, mix 1 teaspoon sandalwood powder with 2 tablespoons coconut milk. This pack can be applied to the infected part or to the face and neck. Leave it till it dries and wash it off with cold water. This is a good remedy for dry skin too.

» Turmeric

Turmeric is a natural cleanser, but a word of caution - according to Ayurveda, turmeric contains a lot of heat, so use it sparingly. Mix one teaspoon of sandalwood with a pinch of turmeric. Make a paste using the required quantity of distilled water, and apply it on the face. After 10 - 15 minutes, wash it off with cold water.
For applying on skin, sandalwood paste should be made with good quality powder, which can be easily sourced from shops that specialize in herbal products. Other sandalwood products like powder, soaps and scrubs will also benefit the skin immensely.
