We all know by now that the main reasons for blocked or clogged pores are bacteria and excess oils on our face. People with oily skin have to suffer the most as they have high risk of having large pores vulnerable to bacterial infection.
The only way you can keep your pores free of infection is by cleansing them on a regular basis.
There are many companies cashing in on this necessity and offer effective pore strips. These homemade strips on the other hand are safe to use for large pores, they are much more affordable, and more effective than the store-bought ones.
The pores are small openings on the skin which are right on the entry points of our sweat and oil glands, and hair follicles. Here, the excess oil comes to the surface and clogs the pores. At times, the tiny pores can also become large and make the skin rough.
The most common period for this to occur is during puberty as the oil glands start to secrete more and more oil from the enlarged pores. Hence, all these reasons make it very important for us to cleanse our face and use the strips. Homemade cleansers can remove the excess oil from the surface and keep the skin looking smooth.

Making the Pore Strips

It is one of the best skin care remedies for oily, large pores and unsightly blackheads.
Ingredients and Tools
  • Unflavored gelatin
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Makeup brush
  • Milk
Step #1: In the microwave-safe bowl, add 1 tablespoon of unflavored gelatin and 1 tablespoon of milk. You can find the gelatin in the baking aisle of your supermarket.
Step #2: Mix both the ingredients properly. If you feel that the mixture is too dry, add couple more drops of milk in it.
Step #3: Place the bowl into the microwave and turn it to 10 seconds. This will warm the mixture a little bit.
Step #4: Take the bowl out of the microwave and stir the mixture properly. You will see that the mixture has melted. This will help you in applying it properly on the pores.
Step #5: Dip the makeup brush in this and apply it over your nose, chin, cheeks, and between the eyebrows (or anywhere you feel the pores need to be unclogged). Rinse the brush thoroughly once you are done.
Step #6: All you have to do now is sit back and let the paste dry on your face. Leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Step #7: Remove the strip now. Unlike other store-bought pore strips, homemade ones will be easier to pull on, won't be too sensitive to the skin, and you won't feel any pain whatsoever.
Step #8: Once you have used the strip, make sure to wash your face thoroughly to ensure there is no residue is left behind. Pat dry your face with a clean towel and apply witch hazel on the skin as a toner.

Making Pore Cleaners

Besides using the strips, there are other cleansers which you can use for large pores.
Cleanser #1: To keep your enlarged pores free of oil, use rose based skin toner. Place a bowl of rose water in the refrigerator with a cotton wool pad soaked inside. Wash your hands properly, take the bowl out of the refrigerator, and wipe your face with the soaked wool pad 2 to 3 times during the day. Remember to use different pad each time to wipe your face. The rose extract will help close the pores and improve the texture of your skin.
Cleanser #2: Take a bowl to combine buttermilk and table salt together. Apply directly over your face and let it sit for 10 minutes. Wash the paste off with lukewarm water and pat dry the face. Repeat this procedure 4 to 5 times a week till you see a difference in the enlarged pores.
Cleanser #3: You can also make a paste of milk or cream with honey. Mix the ingredients properly and make a smooth paste. Apply over your pores and let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Wash your face with cool water and pat dry with a clean towel. The mixture will minimize the enlarged pores.
The most vital part of using the strips and cleansers is that there are no side effects to the skin; as in, no rashes or sensitivity. These strips provide a potent way to treat the clogged pores and remove the impurities.
