Remedies for Oily Hair

  • Shampoo
One of the first and the most basic remedies is to use a mild shampoo, as a harsh one damages your hair. There are some of the ingredients that you must look out for when you choose a shampoo for oily hair. These ingredients are essential oils from plants like jojoba, rosemary, tea tree, sage, eucalyptus, and chamomile.
  • Homemade Shampoo
A homemade shampoo made with aloe vera, lemon juice, and your regular shampoo could also prove to be effective. Apply this shampoo to your scalp and lather thoroughly. Leave it on after this for five minutes and then rinse the hair clean with water.
While you are washing your hair, it is advisable to massage the scalp. The excess oil cannot be cleansed in a single wash, so you must wash your hair at least twice.
  • Dry Shampoo
This is another good home remedy. Sandalwood powder is said to be a good dry shampoo that works well with oily scalp; you just have to rub the powder on the scalp. A light dry shampoo is fragrant and is helpful for oily scalp.
  • Shikakai Powder
Shikakai powder is a good shampoo and is one of the most famous remedies for oily hair in India. For preparing this shampoo, you need to mix shikakai and fenugreek powders and apply this mixture to your hair. Dry soap nuts (reetha) are also effective.
You need to soak these nuts in water overnight and mash them. Then filter out this solution and add shikakai powder to it. This makes a good homemade shampoo.

Oily Hair and Dandruff

Oily hair and dandruff is a problem generally seen in people living in humid regions, especially coastal areas. Besides the coastal areas, this problem is also prevalent in people living in over-crowded and over-polluted cities. The moisture and humidity in air leads to greasy and oily hair.
Due to the excess oil, dust and dirt accumulate and stick to the hair and scalp, which causes dandruff that needs to be washed regularly with a mild shampoo. Many a time, you will suffer from dry hair immediately after the wash.
For treating this, you must condition your hair with a good conditioner. The conditioner forms a protective coating on your tresses and prevents it from severe damage.
This was all about caring for hair that tend to be oily. Home remedies are cheaper and more effective than the expensive products available in the market. In the homemade treatment, you know the ingredients that are added to the shampoo.
This makes it safer than the readily available shampoos, the contents of which you cannot be sure about at times. Apart from the cleansing and conditioning, you must take care that you have a balanced diet, exercise regularly, and sleep well.
