A lip gloss can not only give you shinier and glossy lips, but can also keep them well-moisturized and healthy. A homemade lip gloss, made with all natural ingredients is always a better option than the commercial ones, some of which may contain chemicals that may be harmful, if used for a long time.
A lip gloss is perhaps one of the most loved cosmetics by women for that mild glossy luster and the subtle color, which give a natural and appealing look to the lips. However, lip glosses are also known to provide moisturizing benefits to dry and chapped lips, for which they become quite indispensable during the winter days.
In general, lip glosses come in a variety of forms, right from the clear and translucent lip gloss, to the glittered, frosty, and the metallic ones. But most of the commercially available lip glosses contain many chemicals, preservatives, and artificial colors and flavors. The long-term use of such chemicals may not be good for your health. So, if you want to avoid all these chemicals and artificial colors and preservatives, then why not make your own lip gloss with the following simple recipes.

How to Make Lip Gloss at Home

The basic ingredients in almost all commercial lip glosses are same, except for a few substances that may vary to give different flavor and color to them. The basic ingredients of a lip gloss are, beeswax, petroleum jelly, synthetic preservatives, artificial colorants, flavor, mica, carmine, and some oils like, mineral oil, vitamin E oil, and jojoba oil. So, you can exclude the synthetic ingredients like, artificial color, flavor, preservatives, and also mica and carmine, and replace them with some natural ingredients to make you own lip gloss at home.

Basic Ingredients
  • Beeswax
  • Coconut oil
  • Cocoa Butter
  • Jojoba Oil
The Process
Beeswax can be found in many health stores and candle-making supply stores. They can be found in golden and white color. You have to grate the wax finely with a cheese grater. Now, put about 2 tsp. of beeswax, and 1 tbsp. each of coconut oil and cocoa butter in a double boiler, or over hot water, until all the ingredients melt.
Allow this mixture to cool down for a while, and then pour a few drops of (10 to 15 drops) jojoba oil and stir it properly. You can also add a few drops of vitamin E oil and honey, if you want to. Be sure to mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Now, pour the mixture into a container and set the lid, but keep it slightly open so that the excess moisture can escape from the container. Once your liquid lip gloss solidifies completely, seal the container.

Basic Ingredients
  • Beeswax
  • Olive oil
  • Vitamin E oil
  • Honey
The Process
First, melt about 1 tbsp. of beeswax and 2 tbsp. of olive oil in a double boiler, and let it cool for a while, before adding a few drops of vitamin E oil, 1 tsp. of honey, and essential oil (about 10 to 15 drops). Mix all the ingredients properly. The essential oil is the optional ingredient, which is mainly added to give the lip gloss a mild flavor. Now, pour the mixture into the container and set the lid in such a way that moisture can escape from it. When the mixture or content of the container solidifies, seal it off.

#3

Basic Ingredients
  • Beeswax
  • Cocoa Butter
  • Sweet almond oil
The Process
Take about 1 tbsp. of beeswax, ½ tbsp. of cocoa butter, and about 3 tsp. of sweet almond oil, and melt them in a double boiler. Allow the mixture to cool for a while, after which add a few drops of essential oil and vitamin E oil, and stir the mixture properly. Now, pour this mixture in a container and set the lid half way, so that the excess moisture can escape. Once the content of the container cools or solidifies, do not forget to seal it off.
One important point to be kept in mind is that, the ingredients should be heated till they melt completely. But the mixture should never be brought to boil. The mixture should be allowed to cool down a bit before adding an essential oil to it, as essential oils tend to break apart if added to a very hot mixture. So, you need to be a bit careful and patient. But making your own lip gloss can be a lot of fun, and you will be able to use a lip gloss without worrying about what chemicals went into the product.
