How to Make Natural Hair Conditioner

Deepa Kartha
Our hair is subjected to all kinds of damaging elements that can leave it dry, frizzy, unmanageable, and knotty. Let's take a look at how you can restore your hair's health with the following natural hair conditioner recipes.
Using a conditioner is part of the hair care process since it helps keep hair soft, healthy, and silky. While a good commercial conditioner will give your hair the moisture it needs, a homemade one can be used every day without worrying about a chemical overdose. Depending on the length of your hair, double the quantity of each ingredient in the conditioner; the recipes are suited for medium-length hair. Let's take a look at how you can make a trusty conditioner at home that takes care of your damaged-hair woes.

How to Make Hair Conditioner at Home

Egg, Honey, and Olive Oil

Combine 2 yolks, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 2 teaspoons of olive oil in a bowl. Once the ingredients are mixed thoroughly, coat your hair generously with the concoction. Use a shower cap to keep the mixture in place. Wash it off with a mild shampoo after 20 minutes.

Milk, Mayo, Banana, and Coconut Oil

Combine ½ a cup of milk and mayo with 1 mashed ripe banana. Add a tablespoon of coconut oil before mixing the ingredients thoroughly. Coat your hair with the mixture, leaving it on for 30 minutes. Use a shower cap to keep the conditioner in place and a hot towel wrapped around your head, to let your hair soak up the nutrients. Wash the mixture off after 30 minutes and follow it up with a mild shampoo.

Avocado, Coconut Oil, and Lavender Oil

Take a teaspoon of coconut oil, 3 teaspoons of lavender oil, with 1 mashed ripe avocado, and mix it all up in a bowl. Generously coat your hair with this mixture, avoiding the scalp (it could turn excessively oily post wash). You can heat the oils up just a little bit before applying this conditioner, to allow it to effectively penetrate each strand of hair. Leave the mixture on for 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water, followed by using a mild shampoo.

Hot Oil Treatment

Apart from these recipes, you can try giving yourself a hot oil massage to promote blood circulation in the scalp. The first thing you have to do, is heat up either coconut or olive oil until it turns lukewarm, not scalding hot. Once this is done, rub the oil between your palms, using your fingers to gently massage the oil into your scalp in circular motion. Soak a towel in hot water and wrap it around your head. After 20 minutes, rinse the oil from your hair and follow it up with a mild shampoo.
