Girija Shinde
Dandruff is a pesky issue that leaves one's scalp itchy, flaky, and dry. It can be an ongoing problem with no sign of it going away, where these natural anti-dandruff shampoo recipes are here to the rescue.
It can be quite embarrassing to have someone point out prominent skin flakes that dot your hair or shoulders. Desperately trying to dust them away won't do any good, where it is crucial to seek help if the problem doesn't seem to come to an end, even after addressing it.
Dandruff is caused by an excessive shedding of dry skin, which increases when the scalp is exposed to extreme temperatures caused by heat-styling tools, sunlight, chilly weather, and the like. A diet that lacks a constant supply of hydration, can also result in dandruff.
Even excessive hair washing can lead to dandruff. The problem intensifies even when you vigorously scrub or run a comb against the scalp's surface. You must be careful not to run your nails over the surface of the scalp, but use the pad of your fingers to gently massage shampoo into the roots.
The following homemade anti-dandruff shampoos should help clear visible dandruff, and tackle the issue effectively with repetitive use.

Effective Natural Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Recipes

Recipe #1

Ingredients
  • ½ cup of water
  • ½ cup of white vinegar
  • Juice from one medium-sized lemon
Process

Take a bowl and add the water, lemon juice, and white vinegar to it, mix well, and apply it to the scalp directly. Massage it into the roots for a few minutes in a circular motion; wash it off with a mild shampoo (anti-dandruff). Apply this mixture twice a week prior to shampooing.
Recipe #2

Ingredients
  • 40 drops of lavender oil
  • 8 oz. of any anti-dandruff shampoo
  • 10 drops of birch essential oil
  • 20 drops of rosemary oil
  • 10 drops of cedar wood oil
Process

Use the oils in their natural state, since the synthetic kind will not reveal the desired result. Take a bowl and mix the oils in it. Pour the ingredients into the shampoo mixture, shaking vigorously. The shampoo you choose should ideally be mild, organic, or anti-dandruff in nature. Use this mixture 2-3 times a week.
Recipe #3

Ingredients
  • ½ tsp. of rum extract
  • 6 cloves, finely ground
  • ½ tsp. of rum extract
  • ¼ cup of shampoo (mild/anti-dandruff)
  • 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar
Process

Mix the ingredients together in a blender on low speed for 30 seconds, until it turns into a paste. Pour the solution into an empty bottle and use it within three days. Use this like a regular shampoo before giving your hair a good rinse post shampooing.
Recipe #4

Ingredients
  • 2 tbsp. of fresh thyme
  • 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. of liquid Castile soap
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tsp. of light vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp. of fresh rosemary
  • 2 tbsp. of shredded coconut
Process

Allow the water to boil in a kettle before adding the shredded coconut and herbs to it. Let the water boil for 20 minutes before letting it cool to room temperature off the heat. Drain the water into a bowl and coalesce the other ingredients with it to form a paste. Store the shampoo in an airtight container.
