Mask for Oily Skin

Madhumita Shivade
Oily skin makes the face look dull and tired. Though it might sometimes be frustrating to have this skin type, following certain natural remedies can surely prove beneficial. In fact, applying certain types of face masks can do wonders to improve one's skin. Those who have this skin type can use the recipes for face masks given in this article.
Oily skin is caused when the sebaceous glands produce more oil than is required. The excess sebum makes the skin appear oily. It is a known fact that oily skin slows the process of skin aging.
In some people, this condition might be hereditary, however, making certain poor lifestyle choices (eating oily food frequently, smoking, not following a proper skin care routine, etc.) could be contributing factors. Excessive secretion of sebum could also cause acne, especially among adolescents.
The accumulation of dirt, grime, and sebum could make a person susceptible to acne. Using a face mask can help reduce the oiliness from the pores, thereby improving the condition of the skin.

Banana Mask

A banana pulp applied to the face produces a better complexion. It makes the skin smooth and is a good wrinkle reliever. It also nourishes it with vitamins that are present in the fruit.

Things You Will Need
  • 1 ripe banana
  • ½ tablespoon of honey
  • 2 to 3 drops of lemon
Method
Mash a half ripe banana. Add ½ tablespoon of honey in it and mix it thoroughly using your fingers. Then, add 2 or 3 drops of lemon in the mixture. Stir this mixture, so that it turns into a smooth paste. Before using it, wash your face with a face cleanser that suits your skin type and dab it dry.
Now, apply this mask on to your face and massage it with two fingers for 2 minutes. Wash your face again, and wipe your face dry. This mask can be applied twice a week, for best results.

Sandalwood Mask

Sandalwood is known for its antiseptic properties. It could also be used as a skin conditioner.

Things You Will Need
  • Cleansing milk
  • Cotton balls
  • 1 tablespoon of sandalwood powder
  • Rose wate
Method
Pour some cleansing milk onto a cotton ball, and wipe your face till all the dirt on your face has been cleaned. This is necessary before applying the mask, so that the dirt is wiped off from the pores. Rinse off your face with warm water and dab it dry. Mix 1 tablespoon of sandalwood powder with rose water, such that the mixture is not a thick paste.
Apply this mixture on the face. In case you have an acne-prone skin, apply a thicker layer on it. Keep this mask on your face, till it is completely dry; let the mask dry naturally. Wash your face and pat it dry.
If your face feels very dry after this, use a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin. This can be repeated thrice a week, if the oiliness and acne on the face persists.
