Jojoba Oil For Acne

Ashwini Kulkarni Sule
Jojoba oil is considered as an effective remedy for mild acne. This story provides information regarding the same.
Jojoba oil is extracted from the seeds of the jojoba tree, botanically known as Simmondsia chinensis. This oil is extremely useful in curing several types of skin problems, including acne. It is popularly used as a body massage oil.

Properties

  • It is not volatile like water-based moisturizers.
  • It is similar to sebum (human skin oil).
  • It can be stored for longer periods without losing its antioxidant properties.
  • It gets easily absorbed in the skin.

Benefits

Overworking of the oil glands in the face results in clogging of the pores. Dirt, dead cells, etc., get trapped inside these pores, which eventually leads to acne formation. Sebum is a waxy substance produced by the oil glands that moisturize the skin.
Excess sebum is responsible for acne. The jojoba oil mixes with the natural sebum and sends a signal to the skin that it has produce enough oil. This prevents the overproduction of sebum, and thereby minimizes the risk of acne.
The oil also improves the total health of the skin. It strengthens the epidermis and tightens the skin. This reduces the number of dead cells, thereby decreasing the total number of clogged pores.

Method of Application

You can either apply it directly on the skin, or you can also blend it in an oil-free moisturizer. Take 2-3 drops of organic jojoba oil on your fingertips and massage gently on the skin until all the oil gets absorbed. However, make sure your skin as well as fingertips are absolutely clean.
Applying this oil twice a day is beneficial for the skin; however, excess application may give your skin an unwanted sheen. Hence, limit yourself to only 4-5 drops of it. Applying this oil at night is particularly beneficial. Also, avoid applying it directly on the acne.
Regular usage of jojoba oil can improve the texture of your skin and give it an enviable radiance. It is effective only when you have a mild bout of acne. For severe acne or cystic acne, consult your dermatologist before beginning to use this oil.
