How to Clear Blackheads on Nose

Bidisha Mukherjee
The term 'comedo' refers to a black-tipped plug that clogs a pore of the skin. This is a common skin condition that occurs when pores get clogged with dirt or dead skin cells. This article provides information on the ways to clear blackheads on nose safely.
The development of blackheads and whiteheads on the nose is a common problem faced by people with oily skin. They are formed when sebum, skin oil, dead skin cells, or dirt gets collected in the open pores of facial skin. Squeezing them with your fingernails is never the right solution. Here are some effective techniques that can be used instead:

Pore Cleansing Strips

This is one of the quickest ways to deal with this skin condition. These strips consist of a mixture at the bottom that helps in extracting dirt from your pores. To begin, take some boiling water in a large pot. Cover your head with a towel, and move your face closer to get the steam from the boiling water.
Do this for 5 minutes. Before you apply the nose strip, read the instructions given on its label. Place the strip on the nose in such a way that it covers up the problem area properly. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Now, pull it off upwards, in order to uproot them. With steam therapy, both the problems of blackheads and large pores can be resolved.

Blackhead Extractor

A blackhead extractor comes in the form of a thin metallic stick with a small loop at its end. Before using this device, you have to soften the clogged pore. Wash your face first with a mild exfoliating facial cleanser. While cleaning, scrub the nose with special attention.
However, do not rub the skin too much, as it can cause skin irritation. Steam your face to open up the pores. The next step is sterilizing the metal extractor to avoid any kind of infection. When the sterilized metal extractor has cooled down, put its loop on the outline of the blackhead, and pull it with a gentle hand.
Make sure that you do not use the tool harshly, or it may scar the skin or cause an infection.

Gels and Creams

Gels and creams which contain benzoyl peroxide could also be effectively used as a blackhead remover. On application, it absorbs the oil from the skin and strips off the comedones from the skin surface.
These creams should not be used regularly as benzoyl peroxide could be harsh on your skin, if used for a long time. Soon after the treatment, an oil-free moisturizer should be applied as the skin tends to become dry.

Natural Remedies

There are some natural ingredients easily available in our homes that can be used for blackhead removal.
  • Many people feel that the best way to get clear pores naturally is by applying lemon juice & cinnamon powder. Grind one or two cinnamon sticks to make a fine powder. Add lemon juice to it to make a fine paste. Put it on the problem area for a few minutes, & then wash off with warm water. The exfoliating effect of cinnamon can also help get rid of blackheads.
  • Soak a handful of rice in milk for about four to six hours. Then grind it thoroughly to make a fine paste. Apply it on your nose in gentle circular motions. Wait for 10 minutes before washing off. This works as an excellent scrubber.
  • Take the white of an egg and warm honey in a bowl and mix them well. Dip a cotton ball into this mixture and apply it on your nose in a thin layer. Leave it for 10 minutes and then clean up with warm water.
  • Put one teaspoon each of iodine and Epsom salt in one cup of warm water. Apply the mixture on your nose with the help of a cotton ball and let it dry. This mixture will weaken the skin pores that hold dirt. As a result, gentle rubbing with a washcloth will easily cleanse the pores.
Now that they have been cleared off, preventive measures should be taken so that they do not return. For this, a good skin care regime is absolutely necessary. The three main steps are: skin cleaning, toning, and proper moisturizing.
