Adding hair extensions is the best way to add length or color to your hair. Taking care of them is not a very difficult task. Let us look at some simple tips on how to maintain them.
Hair extensions are either made of synthetic or human hair. They are used by many women to add length to their locks or hide a bad haircut. They are also useful in trying out different hairstyles and new looks. Women often think that caring for these requires a lot of effort and maintenance. However, it is a very simple process.

Haircare Tips

Hair extensions are also prone to damage just like our natural hair. The difference is that they cannot repair the damage on their own like natural hair can. It is very important to wash your hair and keep it clean. They tend to soak up natural oils produced by the scalp, thus turning greasy.
They also become dirty after exercising, swimming, traveling outdoors, etc. Therefore, it is your job to prevent unnecessary damage to the extensions by taking care of it. The following tips will ensure longevity of your hair extensions:
  • Before washing your hair, remove tangles and knots using a wide-toothed comb. Always use a good-quality shampoo. While washing your hair, start from the crown and work your way towards the ends. You should gradually wet your hair to prevent dry hair from swelling and getting tangled.
Do not comb or brush hair extensions when they are wet; this may rip them out or cause damage.
  • You should use a soft-bristled brush for the ends of the hair. Gently brush your mane 2-3 times a day. Avoid using a blow dryer or curling iron, as the heat may reduce the life of your extensions.
  • Moisturizing is an important part of the process. Apply a leave-in conditioner after shampooing your hair. You should apply a little conditioner to your extensions, since they tend to become greasy. You should only use hair care products that are recommended for hair with extensions.
  • If you go for a swim, make sure to cover your head with a swim cap. Do not allow your hair to come into contact with chlorinated water. Chlorine and salt water causes tangles.
  • Another way to take care of these, is wearing your hair in a ponytail, but only if the extensions were made to be tied up. Many extensions fall apart when tied up.
  • You should sleep with your hair completely dry.
  • Avoid perming, coloring, or applying any other chemicals, to your hair.
Follow these tips and your extensions should last longer. If you follow these simple tips, you won't need to run to the salon for treatments. This will help you save a lot of money and time.
