Homemade Deodorants

Ratnashri Dutta
Preparation of a deodorant stick or spray at home is rather easy if you follow the instructions correctly. Read the following story for more.
Deodorants that are commercially produced comprise aluminum which is harmful for our skin. Aluminum-free deodorants are safer and hence the deodorants prepared at home are natural and free of any chemicals. They will not absorb the natural moisture of the skin, keeping it soft.

Recipe #1

Things Required
  • Coconut Oil (10 tablespoons)
  • Baking Soda (½ cup)
  • Cornstarch (½ cup)
Method
The first thing that you have to do is mix the baking soda and cornstarch in a bowl (instead of baking soda you can also use arrowroot powder). Next, add coconut oil (about 9 tablespoons) to this mixture and mix well.
Make a thick paste out of it and then fish out an old deodorant bottle and put this paste in it. The deodorant will harden up depending upon the surrounding temperature.

Recipe #2

Things Required
  • Baking Soda (½ cup)
  • Shea Butter (as per requirement)
  • Cocoa Butter (as per requirement)
  • Cornstarch or arrowroot powder (½ cup)
  • Tea tree oil or any other essential oil (if needed)
Method
In a bowl, you have to mix all the ingredients except for the oil. It will be better if you heat up the butter a bit as it will be easier for you to mix them when they are slightly soft.
After you have mixed all the ingredients, add oil and then place this mixture in a small bottle and leave it overnight.

Recipe #3

Things Required
  • Distilled Water (1 cup)
  • Aloe vera gel (1 cup)
  • Witch Hazel (1 cup)
  • Glycerin (4 spoons)
  • Essential oil (few drops)
Method

Put all the ingredients in a bottle which you can use to spray and shake well. Your spray deodorant is now ready to be used.
Now you know how to make deodorants from the comfort of your own home. No need to spend your money behind those expensive ones anymore, and also don't fear about getting any kind of skin infection from the harsh chemicals that the commercial deodorants use.
