DIY Cleanser
Chamomile Cleansing Milk - suitable for dry and sensitive skin You will need:
Cream - ¼ cup
Milk - ¼ cup
Chamomile flowers, fresh or dried - 2 tablespoons
In a pan, heat all the ingredients but do not bring to a boil. Let it sit for 2 hours and then strain. Cool and put in a bottle and refrigerate. This cleanser can be used for cleaning your face twice a day.
Buttermilk and Fennel Cleansing milk - great for dry skin
You will need:
Buttermilk - ½ cup
Fennel seeds, crushed - 2 tablespoons
In a pan, heat the buttermilk and fennel seeds for half an hour. Let it steep for 2 hours and then strain, cool, and refrigerate. This cleanser stays good with refrigeration for 2 weeks.
DIY Toner
Lemon Toner - great for daily use
You will need:
Lemon juice, freshly squeezed - ½ cup
Distilled water - 1 cup
Witch hazel - 2/3 cup
In a glass, combine all the ingredients and mix well. Place in a bottle and refrigerate. Shake before every use and apply with a cotton ball.
Cooling toner - great for sweaty summer months
You will need:
Witch hazel - ½ cup
Water or green tea - ¼ cup
Lemon juice, freshly squeezed - ¼ cup
Vegetable glycerin - 5 drops
Lavender essential oil - 5 drops
Peppermint oil - 3 drops
Mix all the ingredients in a bottle and shake well.
DIY Scrub
Milk scrub - great for satiny smooth skin
You will need:
Powdered milk - 3 cups
Almond meal - 4 tablespoons
Oatmeal - 1 cup
Orange essential oil - 3 drops
Small muslin bag with draw strings
Add all the ingredients together in a jar and mix well. When you need to exfoliate, place a small portion in the muslin bag and rub on the skin.
DIY Creams
Ginger face cream - good for dry and normal skin
You will need:
Ginger, fresh - 1 piece of 2 inches
Sesame oil - 2 teaspoons
Apricot kernel oil - 2 teaspoons
Vitamin E oil - 2 teaspoons
Cocoa butter - ½ cup
Grate the ginger, squeeze and place juice in a bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix on an open flame till butter has melted. Stir well and allow to cool. Store in a cool place.
Facial Cream - great to use at night
You will need:
Lanolin - 3 tablespoons
Sunflower oil - 1 tablespoon
Almond oil - 1 tablespoon
Lavender essential oil - 1 teaspoon
In a double boiler, melt the lanolin and then, add the rest of the oils except lavender oil and blend well. Cool and let it thicken. Place in a jar and store in a cool place.
DIY Lip Balm
Basic lip balm - great for dry and chapped lips
You will need:
Beeswax beads - ½ ounce
Sweet almond oil - 4 ounces
Colored jojoba beads - 1 teaspoon
Essential oil (your choice) - 1 teaspoon
In a microwave safe bowl, add the sweet almond oil, beeswax, and jojoba beads, and melt. Stir and then add the essential oil. Let it cool and then pour into a jar.
