False Eyelashes

Deepa Kartha
Fake eyelashes have become quite popular among women, and hence, many want to know about them. If you are one of them, you are at the right place, as this article will provide you with a detailed information on false eyelashes.
Fake eyelashes is a relatively new trend in the world of makeup. Though they were used by old Hollywood stars and celebrities, in recent times, it has gained a lot of popularity among common people too.
They add volume to the eyelashes, and give the eyes a dramatic look. Hence, this is considered to be a boon by people who have very thin or small eyelashes. However, it is also important to know the correct way of applying it, it can give a disastrous look to the eyes otherwise.
Nevertheless, before we go into the proper way of applying fake eyelashes, let us take a look at the different types that one can get hold of.

Types of Eyelashes

The best thing about fake eyelashes is that they are found in different varieties from which you can choose the one that suits you the best.

Strip Lashes

These are considered to be the most convenient ones in terms of application.
These are pre-made extensions that can be directly applied on to the original eyelashes. They can help in making the eyes look fuller, as well as bigger. However, the problem with these is that they do not give a natural look to the eye, and people can easily make out they are fake.

Cluster Lashes

As the name suggests, these are available in clusters of 8 or 10.
These lashes are applied in between the natural lashes, and hence, give a natural look to the eye. In other words, as the false ones are mixed with the real ones, it is actually difficult to make out the difference between the artificial and the original ones.
However, the problem here is that though they help in giving a natural look, the task of applying them is really time-consuming.

Single Lashes

These are similar to the cluster lashes, however, the only difference here is that the individual strand is applied in place of a cluster. As every individual strand has to be applied separately, this becomes a more difficult and challenging task.

Eyelash Color and Length

Eyelashes are available in different colors, as well as lengths. To get the most natural look, it will be best to use the ones that are like black or brown.
However, if one is going to a club, colors like orange, purple, golden, green, pink, blue, etc., will also look great. In case of the length of the fake eyelashes, one can choose between long, medium, and short. You can opt for a length that gives the best effect to your eyes.

Applying Fake Eyelashes

Application should be done with proper care and patience. Any wrong look can ruin the work done by the makeup. While most people say that the best way of applying is on clean and makeup-free face, there are people who say that eyelashes should be applied after putting on the foundation and powder.
You can choose the one that you are comfortable with, though personally I feel that fake eyelashes should be put on only after applying base makeup. Once you have done this, there are some simple steps that you can follow.
  • If you are using full or strip lashes, check whether the length and width of the lashes matches with your true ones. If you find it slightly bigger, trim the sides with sharp scissors so that it fits well.
  • Once this is done, apply a small amount of glue on your hand, and lightly brush the base of the lashes on the glue. After applying the glue, wait for a minute before putting on the eyelashes.
  • Holding the eyelashes gently with your fingertips or tweezers, place them as close as possible to the actual lash line. Press the lashes by holding at both the ends for a minute or so.
  • If instead of strip lashes, you are using clusters or individual lashes, apply some glue on the base and paste the lashes on the outside as well as in between the lashes.
  • Once the eyelashes are in the perfect position, apply eyeshadow and eyeliner to cover up the slight gap formed between the false and true eyelashes. A dab of mascara will enhance the dramatic look of the eyes.

Removing Fake Eyelashes

Just as it is important to know how to apply false eyelashes, knowing the method for removing them is also extremely crucial. Most people make a mistake by pulling the eyelashes directly with their fingers. This should be completely avoided, as one may end up with some of their actual eyelashes on their fingers.
To remove the fake eyelashes, take some fake eyelash remover on a cotton swab, and apply it on the lash line. Allow the remover to soak the glue for some time till it becomes soft. Using makeup remover as a substitute for false eyelash remover is also a good idea.
Once the lash line has softened, hold the eyelashes from the outer end, and gently pull it off. If you have used clusters or individual lashes, tweezers should be used to remove them perfectly. After the false eyelash comes out perfectly, apply some remover again to remove the glue. Then, wash and clean the eyes with a good makeup remover.
However, a word of advice for women who are using them and also those who are planning to use them, is to invest in a good pair of eyelashes. Clean them well after use and store them in their original container so that you can use them for a long time.
Nevertheless, you should not make a habit of using them regularly, they should be saved for special occasions only. This is because, frequent use of fake eyelashes can give rise to eye problems like irritation, infection, etc.
