Homemade Facial Packs for Oily Skin

Deepa Kartha

Your face is your most important feature, because it is the first thing that reveals your age and the health of your skin. These homemade facial pack recipes for oily skin will leave you feeling rejuvenated and sporting healthier-looking skin, in no time.
Skin oiliness is caused by overactive sebaceous or oil-producing glands that produce more oil than what is necessary to protect the skin. Stripping oil from your face will only force your glands to produce more sebum in defense, where it is important to immediately moisturize your skin after applying a drying face wash/pack.
Following a strict skin care routine specifically for oily skin, is absolutely crucial to avoid breakouts and other nasty skin problems.

Homemade Facial Mask Recipes for Oily Skin

Instead of spending so much on acne-defense and oil-control beauty products, we suggest making a face pack at home that can help you battle oily skin.
In the following section, you'll find a couple of homemade recipes that will reveal long-lasting results sooner than expected, by religiously preparing them at least three times a week. After you wash the face mask off, be sure to use a gentle moisturizer right after.

Lemon-Banana Face Mask

Ingredients
  • 1 ripe banana
  • Juice from a single medium-sized lemon
  • 3 teaspoons of pure honey
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
Preparation
Mash the ripe banana with the other ingredients in a mixing bowl, coalescing them into a smooth paste. Apply the mixture to your face, making sure to cover every inch of it; avoid the sensitive skin around your eyes. Wait for 20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water; patdry.

Spiced Face Mask

Ingredients
  • 1 mashed cucumber (with skin)
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 3 teaspoons of plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil
Preparation
Mix the ingredients thoroughly before applying it evenly over your face; avoid the sensitive skin around the eyes. Let the mixture sit on your face for 15 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water; pat dry.

Green Tea Face Mask

Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered oatmeal (use a blender)
  • 3 teaspoons plain yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon of pure honey
  • ½ a cup of green tea
Preparation
Steep two green tea bags in ½ a cup of hot water; let it saturate for 30 minutes. In a mixing bowl, combine the oatmeal, yogurt, lemon juice, honey, and green tea, stirring until you acquire a smooth paste-like consistency. Apply it to your face, avoiding the sensitive area around the eyes. Wash the face pack off after 20 minutes with lukewarm water; pat dry.

Essential Oil Face Mask

Ingredients
  • 3 teaspoons of green clay
  • 3 drops of palmarosa oil
  • 1 teaspoon of apricot kernel oil
Preparation
There's nothing to fear by using certain oil additions in a face pack; your face will stop producing as much sebum when foreign elements introduce oil to it. Mix the ingredients until the oils completely blend as one with the clay. If the paste is way too thick, add two teaspoons of water to it. Leave the mix on your face for 10 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water; pat dry.
Before applying the face pack, wash your face with a mild cleaner, followed by a gentle exfoliating scrub that is suitable for oily skin. You don't want to trap dirt and oil under the face pack and push it further into the skin layer, but extract as much of it as possible. Use the homemade face packs thrice a week, on alternate days.
A diet that is rich in spinach, watermelon, water, green tea, and carrots, will help control breakouts and excess sebum production. Limit your intake of dairy, caffeine, aerated drinks, processed sugar, and junk food, to avoid flare ups.
