Dry Face Remedies

Dhanya Joy
Dry skin is a common problem during winter, but some people complain of dry skin all year round. So, if your skin always feels dry, you should follow certain self-care measures. Here are few remedies for getting rid of dry skin on the face.
Dry skin can be caused due to a wide range of reasons. Prolonged exposure to the harsh rays of the sun or icy winds can cause the skin to lose its moisture. Our skin needs to be protected. The texture of the skin would get adversely affected, if one doesn't keep the skin moisturized.
To add to that, some people have a very sensitive skin. If such individuals don't follow precautionary measures, they could get affected by skin conditions. Dry skin could also be accompanied by other symptoms such as tightness, cracked skin, flaking of the skin, rashes, itching, etc.
Skin that has been robbed off its natural oils appears dull and lifeless, which is why people with dry facial skin should apply the right type of skin care products to nourish their skin.

Contributing Factors

Lack of moisture is one of the major causes of dry facial skin. Skin could become dry and damaged due to exposure to UV rays of the sun, cold winds, dust, other environmental irritants, etc. At times, this condition might even be self-inflicted.
For instance, excessive use of certain cosmetic products, especially the ones that contain harsh chemicals, can strip the skin off its natural oils. There are times when dryness is due to the use of certain types of drugs. Thus, it is essential to identify the cause of dryness, and resolve it at the earliest.

Precautionary Measures

If dry skin is also accompanied by rashes or inflamed skin, it's advisable to consult a dermatologist. Otherwise, following certain preventive measures can prove to be beneficial.

Follow a Healthy Diet

Diet plays an important role in keeping the skin healthy. Thus, one must follow a diet that is rich in vitamins and minerals that keep the skin nourished. Individuals affected by dry skin should consume food items that are rich in vitamin C and vitamin E.

Increase Your Fluid Intake

Adequate intake of water is essential for good health. Just moisturizing the skin is not enough, one should also drink at least 8-10 glasses of water daily. Instead of drinking canned juice, opt for juice extracted from fresh fruits and vegetables.

Exercise Regularly

Exercising regularly will go a long way in keeping the skin healthy. Practicing deep breathing exercises and yoga will also prove beneficial.

Follow a Skin Care Regimen

Do follow a skin care regimen. Identify your skin type. Ascertain if your skin is normal, dry, oily, or a combination skin. Use products that are meant for your skin type. Make sure that you don't use cosmetic products that contain harsh chemicals. Opt for natural products that don't cause any harm to the skin.

Avoid Hot Showers

Don't use very hot water while taking bath. It's advisable to use lukewarm water. Long, hot showers can strip the skin off the natural lipid barrier. Once the barrier is broken, moisture can easily get evaporated.

Home Remedies

Here are a few home remedies that you can follow to prevent your skin from becoming dry:

Olive Oil

Gently massage some olive oil on your face about half an hour before taking a shower. After taking a shower, apply a light moisturizer.

Face Pack

Prepare a face pack by mixing together a teaspoon of honey, some milk cream, olive oil, and egg white. Apply this mixture on your face and neck.
Leave it on for 10 minutes. Thereafter, wash off with cold water. Make sure you use only mineral water and not tap water to wash your face.

Banana Face Pack

Mash a ripe banana, and apply it over your face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Thereafter, wash off with cold water.

Face Massage

Massage your skin daily with warm olive oil in gentle circular motions, and let the oil stay on the face for a while. You can also do this before going to bed, so that your face does not dry out by morning.
On a concluding note, protect your skin from harsh rays of the sun and cold winds. Also, use good quality skin care products to keep your skin moisturized. If dryness persists, and is accompanied by other symptoms, consult a dermatologist for proper treatment.
