Dry Face and Acne

Parul Solanki
Although it seems weird to link dry face and acne, the truth is that people with dry skin are just as prone to suffering from an acne breakout as anyone else. Here are some acne cures that you can use to relieve yourself of the unsightly acne pimples and the awful flaky, dry skin.
It is a myth that only people with oily skin are prone to acne. Although people with oily skinĀ are prone to get an acne rash more, acne on dry face is also quite a common occurrence. What this essentially means is that people with dry facial skin have to deal with severe cases of acne attacks similar to the ones afflicting people with oily and normal skin.
So isn't acne associated with oil and clogged pores? Well, yes oil and clogged pores do contribute to acne problems, but the root cause of the issue lies in the bacterial growth, use of improper cosmetics, stress, and an unhealthy diet.
People with dry flaky skin often have acne breakouts when the flaky skin starts sloughing off and ends up clogging the pores. Moreover, most of the acne control treatments tend to dry out the skin, thus aggravating the problem and making it harder for acne to heal. Here are some effective dry face acne cures.

Dry Face Acne Treatment

Face Cleansers and Exfoliators:

To treat dry skin acne, use an oil-free, moisturizing cleanser instead of soap to clean your face each morning. Soaps contain harsh chemicals that can further dry and damage your dry skin on face, not to mention aggravate the acne.
To get rid of the dry flakey skin on the face, use a cleanser twice in a day. Try to avoid ones with high levels of salicylic acid as it can severely dry the skin. This will allow you to get rid of the clogged pores. Dermatologists also recommend using mild exfoliators for sloughing off the dead skin.

Moisturizers:

Time to bust another acne myth. Acne is never worsened because of moisturizers. Most of the acne medications contain ingredients such as Benzoyl Peroxide and Retin A that dry out the skin.
To retain the facial skin moisture, you need to use a moisturizer, especially in case of dry face after washing or shaving. Use a gel-based hydrating dry face acne moisturizer rather than one with oil that can worsen the acne.
Ensure that the moisturizers are non-comedogenic so that they do not clog up the pores. Use a pump applicator for applying the moisturizer on the face rather than dipping your fingers into a jar of cream and transferring the bacteria everywhere.

Sunscreen:

If you stay out in the sun during noon hours, then you might want to use a sunscreen. This not only helps hydrate and moisturize the skin but also protects against the harsh UV rays of the sun. Make sure you pick up a sunscreen that does not contain any oil.

Cosmetics:

Even for people with dry flaky skin on face a light, oil-free foundation works well in imparting an even tone to the skin. Pair this up with other oil-free cosmetics such as eye shadows and eyeliners.
Some makeup products tend to soak into the skin and make it dry and flakey. In that case, use some gel-containing ingredients such as glycerin to hydrate that portion of the skin.

Drink Lots of Water:

Drinking lots of fluids keeps your body hydrated and prevents the toxins from clogging up the pores. In fact, drinking at least eight to ten glasses of water each day allows your body to flush out the harmful body toxins resulting in a glowing skin and a healthy body.

Lifestyle Changes:

Diet with whole grains and organic products with regular workout improves blood circulation and oxygen content of the skin, thus preventing facial dryness. Remember to wash off the sweat after exercising to prevent clogged pores due to excess sweat.
In addition to these, herbal dry face cures such as aloe vera or deep cleansing clay masks are also great alternative treatments for dry face acne. However, if your acne woes do not get resolved by these simple acne cures, then it is best to consult a dermatologist.
