Among the many hair woes, the scalp is not an exception. Most of our hair issues will be related to the hair only. However, the scalp can also give you a hard time by getting dry and itchy. For most of us dealing with a dry scalp, we know that along with dryness in the scalp, dandruff and itching are risks that have the most favorable conditions to flourish.
A scalp with dryness is irritating and embarrassing too, with picking or scratching the scalp frequently. A lot of things contribute to this condition, the most common one being exposure to harmful treatments. Sure we all agree, looking good with stylish hair and colored fringes is important.
But constant perming, coloring, and other chemical treatments will draw excess moisture from your hair and scalp too. Along with this, excess shampooing, not rinsing the shampoo or conditioner and other styling products off well from the scalp and hair, can add to the dryness.
Too much and too frequent shampooing is one of the major causes. Medical issues and certain diseases like eczema and dietary deficiencies too can contribute to a dry scalp. Anything that disturbs the pH balance of the scalp and promotes very less natural oils in the scalp leads to dryness. Well, it is time we treat these worries, and the fact that there are a number of treatments that can help, should put you at ease.

Dry Scalp - Deep Conditioning Treatments

For conditions like dry scalp, the common treatments include a good diet. For external treatments, rinsing well after shampooing and conditioning, avoiding excess shampooing, and also avoiding the use of harsh products on the scalp and hair, are important. Using some specially designed shampoos, scalp lotions and moisturizers, etc., can also help to treat a dry scalp.
Some hair conditioning treatments like warm wraps and scalp massage can also help the scalp restore its moisture and oils. The best treatment however includes conditioning. Deep conditioning helps restore the natural oils and moisture in the scalp and hair. It is one treatment that can be done at home and is easy on your pocket too. There are many products available today that can help, but we will discuss some of your at-home options for proper conditioning for a dry scalp.
Before conditioning, one must always wash the hair with a mild shampoo, and rinse the shampoo off well. You can let the excess water drain from your hair, and then apply a good deep conditioner.
Now place a warm wrap like a warm towel around your head, or you can also use a heating device and add more moisture to the head. Keep the wrap for about 15 minutes and then rinse your scalp and hair well.
It is advisable to use cold water to rinse the hair, as it will close the hair shafts and skin pores on the scalp, and retain the moisture that will prevent loss of moisture and oils. Always naturally dry your hair whenever possible.
