Cystic acne is a severe form of acne, that commonly affects teenagers. Along with medical treatment, home remedy for the same can help cure it, and can also prevent acne breakouts in the future.
Cystic acne or nodulocystic acne is known to be the most severe and harsh type of acne. This condition is characterized by acne developing into small cysts and pustules on the surface of the skin, which could also be very painful.
These breakouts are observed not only on the face, but also on the back. It is commonly observed among teenagers and young men. They can take a long time to heal, and cause some amount of scarring and blemishing.
Medical attention is essential for its treatment and cure, or else, it leads to infections and other skin diseases. It is essential to know about its causes, and treatment for its control and prevention. A few home treatment methods can also be followed to alleviate the condition.

Causes

Although the exact cause has not yet been established, it may be caused due to various factors, like, heredity, hormonal imbalance, certain medications, stress, diet, etc.
Other causes include, use of greasy and oil-based cosmetics, harsh cleansing agents, pollution and dust. Cystic acne is more likely to affect people with overactive sebaceous glands and a large number of dead skin cells. Heredity and hormones are the two major causes of it in adults.

Home Remedy

Along with medications to control the condition, there are also a few natural home remedies that help to treat and cure this condition. These are easy and require the use of ingredients that are easily available. Cystic acne home treatment helps reduce inflammation, soothes the affected area and prevents further breakouts.

Baking Soda

Baking soda is known to be very useful in acne cure and prevention. Mix ½ teaspoon of baking soda with some water to make a thick paste. Apply this to the affected area, and leave it on for around 15 minutes. Rinse it off with cool water. This helps to remove excess oil from the area and prevents further breakouts.
Another good treatment option is to mix ½ teaspoon baking soda with a pinch of sea salt and some water to make a paste. Apply this mixture to the area that is affected by cysts.

Potatoes

It contain alkaline nutrients that help break down the oils that get clogged in the pores of the skin. They can be used for natural treatment by slicing a potato into half, and rubbing it on the affected area. Leave it on for half an hour and rinse off with lukewarm water.

Eggs

Egg whites are known to be very effective as natural remedies. Applying egg whites mixed with a few drops of honey reduces breakouts, and also soothes the area that is affected.

Honey and Turmeric

Applying a mixture of honey and turmeric along with some lime juice is a good way to treat adult cystic acne. This helps reduce the inflammation, and also has a soothing effect on the skin.

Contraceptive Pills

Consuming oral contraceptive pills is known to cure and prevent cystic acne in women. They help curb the overactive oil producing glands, thus reducing the breakouts.

Aspirin

A combination of honey and aspirin can be used as an effective treatment for this awful skin condition. Crush 2 to 3 aspirin tablets, and mix with a tablespoon of honey to make a paste. Apply this to the affected area, leave on for around 20 minutes, and rinse off with lukewarm water.

Tea Tree Oil

Application of tea tree oil to the affected area can treat cystic acne effectively, as it kills bacteria that causes acne, and also reduces inflammation.
Cystic acne should be treated as soon as possible to avoid further skin problems and infections. It is essential that you follow an appropriate skin care regimen, and use acne skin care products and oil-free makeup products, in case you are suffering from the aforementioned condition.
