Cracked Feet Home Remedies

Cracked feet, also known as heel fissures, is a common foot problem observed in many people. Here is a few home remedies to get rid of this unsightly, or at times, painful condition.
Cracked heels can affect anyone; however, some people with disorders such diabetes, hypothyroidism, dry skin, obesity, etc., are more prone to this condition.
Although the problem makes your feet look unattractive, sometimes, the cracks may deepen making simple activities like walking, standing, etc., very painful. This condition can be treated at home using some of the natural ingredients that are easily available in your kitchen.

Home Remedies

  • Apply the pulp of a ripe banana on the cracked heel for about 10 to 15 minutes. Then, clean it with lukewarm water.
  • Mix petroleum jelly with lemon juice, and rub this mixture on the dry area of your heels. This mixture gets easily absorbed in the dry areas and gives good results. You may choose to apply this mixture at night and cover your feet with socks.
  • Soak your feet in warm water mixed with lemon juice for 15-20 minutes. Use this remedy only once a week till you see results of the same.
  • Mix equal amounts of rose water and glycerin, and rub this solution on your affected heels daily before going to bed.
  • Apply coconut oil to the cracked heel.
  • Take some warm water in a tub and add shampoo to it. Soak your feet in this water for about 15 to 30 minutes. But, make sure you do not go out after this.
  • Apply petroleum jelly to your feet to cure dry skin on feet.
  • Soak your feet in warm water. Use a foot scrub and clean your feet off the dead skin and dust particles from the cracked heels. Then wash the feet and pat them dry.
  • Melt some paraffin wax and mix it with coconut oil. Fill this mixture in the cracks on your feet before going to bed. Cover your feet and sleep. In the morning, wash it off with warm water. You will see the results in 10 to 15 days.
  • In a tub, take some warm water and add soda bicarb (baking soda) in it. Soak your feet in this mixture for 15 to 20 minutes. If the need be, scrub your feet with pumice stone. Do this remedy for 4 or 5 days to see the results for yourself. Like soda bicarb, Epsom salts can also be used to soak the feet in water.

Feet Care Tips

Not only should people with cracked heels clean their feet at night, but everyone should. This helps prevent cracking of heels as the dust particles are removed due to this cleaning. Before going to bed, moisturize your feet by applying a thick layer of moisturizing cream or lotion on them.
Make sure you do not expose your feet to dirt, grime, wind and sunlight since they are the biggest enemies of the feet. Avoid walking barefoot, and get a pedicure once a month.
Most of the aforementioned remedies are simple to practice, and they will help you get rid of the heel fissures. Therefore, if you want good looking feet, then you should take care of them so as to prevent the heels from getting dry and cracked.
