Colloidal oatmeal, also known as 'Avena sativa L.', is a natural product which has been used to treat various skin ailments for a long time. When used for bathing purposes, it has many benefits for the skin. This post elaborates more on the subject.
Colloidal oatmeal is known to treat various skin aliments like Psoriasis and Eczema, and also sunburns and bug bites. It is a fine oatmeal powder and is formed by extracting colloidal from the oatmeal. Several over-the-counter colloidal oatmeal products are now being manufactured due to their qualities of healing when used in baths. However, this oatmeal is different from breakfast oats, and hence should not be consumed.

Dry skin, itchy skin, eczema, skin rash, and mosquito bites are all skin disorders. Some of these are serious, while some others are not. These problems can be very irritating. A colloidal oatmeal bath is quite effective in providing relief from these skin conditions.
It contains saponins, which are a very good cleansing agent. The starch in the oatmeal is responsible for retaining the natural moisture of the body. It has several anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties making it a good cure for poison ivy--using it in a bath is thus an effective remedy for diaper rash.
When roughly ground, it also makes for an excellent natural scrub which helps one get rid of all the dead cells on the body.
Alternatively, if you do not have a bathtub, mix the oatmeal powder with some warm water and make a paste. Apply this paste all over the body, concentrating more on the areas that are itching. Allow the powder to do its work, and wash it off after 10 to 15 minutes with warm or cold water.
Again, pat yourself dry with a soft towel and do not rub your skin hard. If your skin condition is severe, you can take three oatmeal baths a day. However, if it is not, then even one bath in the night should be sufficient to show results. This bath is also an excellent relaxation technique.
If you do not want to buy the ready-made powder, or if you do not have the time to buy it, you can also make it at home. Take a cup of oatmeal, grind it into a very fine powder in the grinder, and use it in your bath.
This bath not only relieves skin conditions, but also makes your skin elastic and glowing. Hence, you can also use this to make your skin look and feel beautiful, and not just for remedial purposes.
