Castor oil is used for many purposes like labor induction, to prevent hair loss, as a remedy for arthritis, for tumors, etc. It is also very effective on small cuts, sunburns, abrasions, etc. It fosters the yield of collagen which hydrates and moisturizes the skin.
It also makes the skin look younger by working on wrinkles thus making the skin smoother. The ricinoleic acid in castor oil makes it anti-inflammatory, and thus many skin problems are treated with it.
Acne, one of the most common skin ailment, can be very effectively treated using this oil. It is also a good natural cure for those dark circles under the eyes. Castor oil also works well for acne marks, and is a popular treatment option against these blemishes on the skin. In short, it is a must-have facial skin care product.

Acne Treatment

Using castor oil for the treatment of acne and pimples is a good idea because of all the points mentioned above. But taking this treatment in the right way is also important. It is called the oil cleansing method. All you need for this procedure is a cloth, warm water, and of course the oil. Go through the following instructions, and try it 2 - 3 times a week for best results.

» Step 1

Taking this treatment before going to bed is most beneficial. Boil some water till it starts steaming well. Now take the pot of boiling water down. Place your face above the pot, and cover your head with a towel, so that maximum steam is focused on your face. The steam will open the pores on your face.

» Step 2

Now put a cloth in the hot water, and softly rub it on your face for five minutes. This will remove the buildup, if any. Apply one or two teaspoons of castor oil on the same cloth, and wipe your face with it in circular movements. Do not rub too harshly.

» Step 3

Wash your face with lukewarm water and dab it with a fresh cloth. While doing so make sure all the excess oil is removed from your face. Now to close the pores of your face splash it with cold water. Wipe your face dry and apply only two drops of castor oil on your face with your fingers.

» Step 4

Leave the small amount of oil on for the entire night. Wash it off with a good face wash in the morning followed by a little skin exfoliation with a facial scrub. You can apply a little moisturizer after that.
If you have sensitive skin, consult your doctor before using castor oil. The usage can also be discontinued if it leaves you with a burning feeling, skin rashes, or any irregularity on the skin. See your doctor right away if the acne gets worse, as it may not have occurred due to its usual causes.
Also, avoid using any cosmetics on your face till the acne is completely cured. You can also use castor oil for acne scars on your face. They will not disappear, but the skin around it will soften. An important thing for good skin care, and avoiding skin disorders, is drinking a lot of water which renders your skin fresh and soft, without any cosmetics.
