Beauty Tips for After You Turn 40

Mia Morales
When in your forties, it can seem daunting to you to navigate a new routine for your changing appearance. Here are some tips for how to change your look and ensure that you look as beautiful, no matter what your age.

Moisturizer

Finding the right moisturizing cream or lotion can be incredibly tricky due to your skin type. Always pick a solution that has sun protection, which is incredibly useful for everyday wear.
For instance, if you have skin that reacts easily to harsh products, then you may be better off choosing a moisturizer that is hypoallergenic or designed specifically for sensitive skin. Apply your moisturizer twice a day, after you wash your face. It is especially important to apply it before bed.
This way, your skin can be refreshed and repair and restore itself during the hours that you are sleeping.

Makeup

Because you need to pay more attention to your skin, you should make some changes to your makeup regimen to keep your face healthy. If you have a drier skin, try using a cream instead of a powder after you have prepared for applying makeup.
Makeup over 40 should include emphasizing your best features, such as going light on eye makeup and maximizing the appearance of your eyelashes with mascara. In addition, take care to remove all makeup before you go to bed at night and you apply your nightly moisturizer or under eye cream. This will allow your skin to breathe while you sleep.

Haircare

Like your skin, it is always a good idea to give your hair the best treatment possible so it can have the shine and volume. Washing your hair every day can cause it to dry out and over-produce natural oils that give the hair its luster. Try to space time between washes so that the oils you produce will effectively nourish your hair.
Try to use a clarifying shampoo once every few weeks to erase potential buildup from your regular hair products. You should also use products that protect your hair. For instance, if you use a curling or flat iron every morning, make sure to spray your strands with heat protectant before styling it. Having good hair can be a major confidence booster as well.

Teeth

According to the natural aging process, your teeth are subject to the effects of growing older as well. Your enamel naturally wears off as you get older, lending itself to less white teeth that are subject to more staining as well. Visit the dentist regularly, if possible, and stay up to date on dental work.
Oral hygiene should be brushing your teeth at least twice a day, for two minutes each time. Many electric toothbrushes have timers for each section of your mouth that make sure you are brushing for long enough.
Adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet, using activated charcoal, and other whitening products can help keep your smile as radiant as you are.

Jewelry

Another important part of your overall beauty look is how you accessorize. Jewelry choices can make or break an ensemble. Try to avoid wearing heavier jewelry, especially earrings, as these can cause sagging and accelerate the process of drooping and wrinkling of vulnerable body parts.
Additionally, wearing older pieces can either look vintage, or more often than not, older and dowdy. If you are donning a classic pearl necklace or simple hoop earrings, be sure to pair them with a more trendy outfit to nicely contrast the pieces. Try to mix up your necklace and earrings so they coordinate, but do not match exactly.
Having a great beauty look after you turn forty does not have to be a difficult task. With these tips, you are guaranteed to take care of yourself, your body, face, and your well being, while feeling confident and great in whatever you wear.
